The campaign
The key objective of this campaign is to raise public awareness of this rare disease, telling the story in both an ironic and realistic way of what life is like for sufferers of this condition.
“By using the element of surprise as a tool to tell the story of the various adaptive behaviours, we believe we can reach a lot more people, including the young, who might recognise these behaviours in themselves. Many people are often undiagnosed or unaware of the condition, which compromises their quality of life because eating becomes difficult and pleasureless, frequently leading to avoidance of social situations”.

DO THESE SCENES SEEM EXAGERATED TO YOU?
FOR SOME PEOPLE IT’S THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN EAT.

A Word from the Gastroenterologist
“People who are affected by this disease find it difficult to swallow certain foods, which gives rise to series of ‘adaptive’ behaviours that can vary depending on the stage and gravity of the disease. As you can see in the ‘Eating Should be a Pleasure’ video, the affected persons start to change the way they eat or they avoid the foods that cause the symptoms. These behaviours can range from adding sauces and condiments, right the way through to even blending their meals. By following the correct diet and taking the right therapies prescribed by a specialist, sufferers can regain the pleasure of eating and their social life”.

Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at the DISCOG University of Padua
PATIENT ASSOCIATION ESEO ITALY
“EoE is still diagnosed considerably late, which means patients often drift from specialist to specialist without ever finding any real answers. The “Eating Should be a Pleasure Campaign” aims to reduce the risk of delayed diagnosis. If you have difficulty eating and have any of the symptoms shown in the video, do not adapt your eating behaviour; contact us straight away. We can support you in finding a specialist who can help you and provide you with a correct diagnosis”.
Roberta Giodice, President of Patient Association ESEO Italy
